About Me

“Who Am I?”

Here, I write some words of reflection on the question of who I am, and who I am becoming - click the arrow below to view!

“I am a brother to one, a son to two, a cousin to ten, a friend to many, and a student of the world. I am from a cozy yet spirited Central Jersey suburb brimming with life—where neighborhood block parties erupted spontaneously, children turned every street into their personal football field, and uncles and aunties engaged in political battles that rivaled any town hall meeting. I am also from southwest India – with connections to the depths of life in the mountainous Western Ghats along with ties to cities in the interior buzzing with human activity. Now, I am creating a new home for myself in the bustling Bay Area, immersing myself in the layers of lore and stories that this place holds. I am an aspiring artist who loves to sketch and doodle; I am an aspiring musician who loves to hum and sing. I am a scientist who seeks to understand the world, and I am an engineer who seeks to contribute to human production. I am at times silent and radiate peace, like a gentle fawn, yet at other times I am as loud and full of chaos, like fireworks in the sky. I am a social and political subject of this world. I am desperately searching for solutions and explanations for all the suffering that surrounds me. I am happy but I am also a little sad. I am an eager learner and an enthusiastic teacher. I stumble sometimes but my fear of falling is nothing compared to my confidence in getting back up. I am who I am because of those who have inspired me - my family, my friends, my teachers, and everyone else, across time, space, species, and existence. I am stubborn and I am unsatisfied. I am afraid but I am brave. I am imperfect but I am improving. I am Poojit Hegde.”

SGTC Research Assistant

From 2020 to 2021, I was a BioX research intern, and then a research assistant at Stanford Genome Technology Center, working on measuring red blood cell morphologies using AI for ME/CFS research.

AC SWE Intern

In the summer of 2021, I worked at Accountability Counsel (AC) in San Francisco where I got to build cool tools that automatically gather information about international development projects from across the web. I also played detective, researching how big agriculture companies affect local communities around the world and sharing what I discovered.

2023-2025!

I started my Master’s degree in 2023. Near the start of 2024, I had to take a leave to tend to family matters. When I returned to finish classes in 2025, I also spent some time exploring writing (check out my blog) and education (facilitated a class and a book club) on the themes of science, technology, and society. I finally graduated with my M.S. in Computer Science in June 2025!

Some Photos

Last year, I visited my friend’s musical performance. She was acting as a wedding photographer, and a song she sang in the musical featured the following line: “people age but pictures never change”. That being said, there’s something about looking at a picture that captures a memorable moment that stirs my heart in a special way. In this sense, perhaps pictures may never change, but merely witnessing their existence changes me. Click the arrow below to view a few!

Now

What Am I doing now? Click the arrow below to read!

I just graduated from college, and I am currently looking for full time employment!

Ultimately I love the act of creating and discovering new things, especially in collaboration with others. I have experience with various kinds of technologies, but I really believe that it is the people working on the technology that make the difference, not just the technology by itself. In that sense, I take very seriously my personal commitments to doing good work with the skills and time I have.

On that note, I am working on several technical projects concurrently as I am applying for jobs, including building a tool for improving difficult-to-read PDFs with AI, designing a household energy estimation predictor with a friend, and even putting together this website! Check out some of these projects as well as other previous projects on my “Projects” page in this website.

I also spend time every week on educational projects, specifically leading two summer studies for Stanford undergraduate students on topics in politics, society, and history. I also am a tutor in math, science, and even chess. If you or someone you know is looking for a tutor or mentor, please let me know! I especially am eager to devote any extra time I have to supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Onwards!
